I began my career in healthcare at a community mental health center in Erie as an office assistant. Six years later I was drawn to the nursing field and went on to complete my Associate of Science in Nursing degree at Mercyhurst University in 2012, followed by being licensed as a Registered Nurse.
My nursing experience consists of ten years at the bedside in a local hospital in a variety of settings including trauma, orthopedics, medical-surgical and maternity. I earned a Trauma Nursing program certificate from UPMC Hamot, NIHHS Stroke Care Certification and an ANCC Board Certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Feeling drawn to work in mental health again, I spent the next two and a half years as a Nurse Clinical Liaison Support Coordinator for a nationwide telepsychiatry company. Here I supported the operational and business teams remotely, and appreciated the concept of collaborative care between primary care and psychiatry providers. I also furthered my knowledge in substance use and addictions, completing the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry Waiver Training Certification for buprenorphine treatment in the OUD population. Finally here at PIMBW, I look forward to refocusing on a holistic and collaborative team approach to guide others on their wellness journey.Outside of work, my husband and I are blessed by caring for two high-maintenance dogs and a teenage son who keeps us busy between basketball and baseball season. We volunteer regularly in the nursery and ServErie groups with our church and community. I enjoy promoting self-care, enriching the lives of others and instructing skin care and beauty through my small business, and traveling - preferably somewhere warm with ocean waves!Sara May, RN-BC
