Betty Amatangelo is a seasoned CYT (Certified Yoga Teacher), EYT (Experienced Yoga Teacher), and Y12SR (Certified Yoga of 12 Step Recovery) facilitator, with additional certification in Thai Yoga Massage. With nearly 15 years of teaching experience, Betty discovered her passion for yoga as a transformative tool for spiritual awareness and holistic well-being.
Inspired by "Meditations from the Mat" by Rolf Gates, Betty committed to a 200-hour certification with Gates at the Mount Madonna Center in Santa Cruz, California, in 2009. Since then, she has been actively teaching and leading workshops on yoga and meditation in the Erie community.
Betty's educational background includes Lay Ministry certification, an Associate's degree in Religious Education, and a BA in Religious Studies. In addition to her CYT/RYT/Y12SR certifications, she is also certified in Thai Yoga Massage through Leela Matta Foundation/Peaceful Valley Ashram in Clarion, PA.
Having completed the Y12SR certification, Betty focuses on healing addiction and other challenges of the body, mind, and spirit. Her diverse teaching experience spans preschoolers, at-risk youth, high school and college students, seniors, veterans, recovering addicts, athletes, and studio classes. This extensive background equips Betty to adapt and be effective in various teaching environments.
Betty's teaching style emphasizes a vinyasa approach, seamlessly connecting breath to movement to enhance physical and mental strength. Through strategically incorporated wisdom literature, music, and heartfelt guidance, Betty aims to guide her students to a place of stillness and balance. Before the pandemic, Betty taught at various locations, including Schoolhouse Yoga, Erie Foods Co-op, Snap Fitness, and Highmark Direct.
Betty Amatangelo is a wonderful yoga instructor who brings many years of experience to the mat. She is challenging with her movement yet always reminds her students of modifications, if necessary. She blends her faith into her sessions and is very thoughtful with music choices. She truly cares that each student is successful with their practice and her words of encouragement stay with you, ringing into your ears during times of struggle off the mat. Betty is humble, commanding, insightful, and likeable. Once you are her student, you want to stay her student.
I have practiced yoga with Betty Amatangelo for many years.
Betty is thoughtful in choosing poses for each class that she leads,
keeping in mind the age and skill level of participants. Many of the poses
are, of course, the same from week to week. Yet Betty introduces variety
that keeps the classes fresh while introducing us to new experiences. The
poses are appropriate and particularly helpful to the specific makeup of the class.
Perhaps most importantly, Betty brings a spiritual understanding to our
practice that is palpable. The readings and insights that she shares, though
certainly universal, often seem to reach me personally. It is not an
exaggeration to say that yoga with Betty has been a life enhancing, if not a
life changing experience. I have gone to other yoga classes, but none
like Betty's! I can wholeheartedly recommend her classes to anyone!
I have been taking yoga classes from Betty for many years . She is an excellent teacher. Betty makes you feel very comfortable whether you are a new student or a veteran student . Young or old (which I am) everyone is welcome with open arms. You can follow her instructions with your eyes closed. I look forward to going to class every week .
I was one of Betty's original students several years ago, and have remained with her consistently. Not only does she teach a well-rounded physical class, but she imparts some wonderful words and feelings of peace to her students.
I have taken Betty Amantangelo's yoga classes for the past 15 years. Her classes are enjoyable, as well as challenging, and I always leave class feeling so good. She's the best! She always starts class with a thoughtful meditation and ends class with gratitude, and I appreciate all that she brings to the class.
